Who We Are

Emel is a food and portrait photographer. She has been working for Conde Nast Traveller, Vogue, GQ, Food & Wine and many others as a photographer and a writer since 2002.
Her life took a significant turn when she moved to the Syrian border of Turkey after the Syrian war. She set up a darkroom (@sirkhanedarkroom) with a German NGO, Welthungerhilfe, and Her Yerde Sanat Association, teaching Analog Photography to refugees and local kids.
In 2018 she decided to educate her self on photography, English and Plant based eating and moved to the UK.
First year she volunteered at the Made In Hackney Plant Based Community Cookery School in London. Being new to the UK and recently having given birth to a baby, she felt quite isolated and exhausted.
Through her volunteer work with MIH, she not only made many wonderful friends but also learned to prepare incredibly healthy and delicious dishes. Moreover, she had the opportunity to extend a helping hand to those in need within the community by offering free cooking classes, which left her feeling more fulfilled and content.Upon relocating to Manchester, Emel felt compelled to establish a similar kitchen in her new city. Her vision was to create a space where people could come together to learn how to cook nutritious cuisines from around the world, foster new friendships, and cultivate healthy habits.
